Sometime am I working on Windows Servers, and want to see what updates must be installed. Unfortunately, due to policies settings, if viewing the missing updates, and start immediately with the installation of it. 🙁

With using the following PowerShell snippet, I can view it without triggering the download/installation of it:

$UpdateSession = New-Object -ComObject Microsoft.Update.Session
$UpdateSearcher = $UpdateSession.CreateupdateSearcher()
$Updates = @($UpdateSearcher.Search("IsHidden=0 and IsInstalled=0").Updates)
$Updates | Select-Object Title

This gives a nice list of the updates to be installed:

2026-05 Servicing Stack Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB5088064)
2026-05 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB5087537)
